Emergency under attack. Despite attempts to discredit, several exponents of the world of culture have expressed their solidarity with NGOs active in Lashkar Gah, in the province of Helmand province in Afghanistan, to give medical assistance to civilians.

"Knowing the character of the war generally, I know what it means to take a pledge of peace and solidarity in places where armed conflicts are carried out, where is the democratic base, where each social commitment risks apart from his political or civil. From Italian citizen I am very proud of the fact that its from my country a project so important on the international scene, as Emergency. I don't think the Italian doctors, people who have dedicated their time and their forces to humanitarian efforts, you have become terrorists. I see behind these accusations a precise plan, cruel and offensive against our whole nation. Today we Italians we must be United as we haven't been ever, because we are in danger of losing credibility and secure position on the international scene. Today our security structures, our Government must show the world that we don't want and we cannot allow anyone to accuse and detain our citizens, doctors engaged in humanitarian aid. As a citizen and Patriot wonder to our Minister of Foreign Affairs to resolve this conflict, by protecting our citizens seized unjustly by the corrupt Afghan political forces and ensure their immediate release and return. Otherwise our commitments within the ISAF and the sacrifices of our fallen soldiers in Afghanistan are likely to take a frustrating and ridiculous for any country. We cannot afford to kill our brothers for the second time, wrongly tainting their memory, compromising the efforts that resulted in a country blighted socially and without any democratic basis. Manifest my sincere solidarity to all operators of Emergency: like all Italians, I am with you, We are proud of you, you are our National giant awakes!”.
